Side-scrolling shooters were all of the rage back in the day when arcades really thrived. These games featured non-stop action where players had to be quick with their reflexes and lay down bullet after bullet at whatever got in their way. Soldner-X 2: Final Prototype Definitive Edition takes this same formula, but elevates the genre with amazing audio, visuals, and gameplay.

If you’ve never had the chance to get in on this genre — whether it’s because these classics were before your time or you just haven’t found the right formula — then this Definitive Edition may get you to appreciate a genre that has a lot of history behind it.

The Definitive Edition includes a total of 10 stages for you to master your way through. Each one is distinctly detailed, although all of them are dripping in personality. You can tell the game’s developer wanted to create a striking side-scrolling shooter that fans haven’t seen in today’s modern era of gaming.

There are three ships you can play with and although that isn’t a ton of variety, each one does perform drastically different and that helps you find one that suits your preferred playstyle. Or you can mix the ships up and master all of them by the time you get through the 10 levels. It’s completely up to you.

The fact that there are virtually no load times helps you have a seamless experience, despite the frenetic pace that you get to experience from start to finish. Throughout the stages, you’ll get to battle epic bosses and take the fight to a diverse selection of enemies.
