While CD Projekt Red‘s next game, Cyberpunk 2077, is currently scheduled to launch on December 10, its multiplayer expansion likely won’t be released until 2022, and when it launches, it might resemble Grand Theft Auto V’s online mode.

According to data-driven research and analytics firm called M-Science, CD Projekt Red could try to emulate GTA Online when they release Cyberpunk 2077’s multiplayer.

“Based on company commentary, the multiplayer model sounds similar to that of GTA Online, with a series of free DLCs and expansions,” said the analytics firm.

“While the paid-DLC model can be successful, and makes sense for a title such as Cyberpunk, we view multiplayer as the larger opportunity long-term and the best opportunity to create a robust, multi-year recurrent consumer spend model for the franchise.”

Back in August, CD Projekt Red confirmed that Cyberpunk 2077 will have both free and paid DLC expansions just like their previous open-world title The Witcher 3: Wild Hunt, which had two story DLCs — Blood and Wine and Hearts of Stone — and several free DLCs that included cosmetic items, new quests, a new game plus mode, and new weapons.

Back in April, CD Projekt president Adam Kiciński confirmed that Cyberpunk 2077 will have no less DLC than The Witcher 3 did, meaning that their upcoming first-person open-world RPG will have at least two story expansions, a new game plus mode, and around 16 additional packs.

The developers also said that they’re taking what they learned from The Witcher 3’s post-launch content and applying it to Cyberpunk 2077’s DLCs.

“We’ve learnt from that and that is the strategy for how we’ll apply DLC to Cyberpunk as well. We’ll look to take what we’ve learnt from Witcher 3 and apply that.

“With Witcher 3 the game got better with quality of life updates for the community as well, like how we improved the UI and things like that.”

Right now, CD Projekt Red seems confident that they’ll be able to get Cyberpunk 2077 out by their new December 10 release date, although there is a rumor that they’re going to delay the game until early next year. Shortly after they announced their latest delay, CDPR seemed to suggest that all of the game’s issues are with the current-gen versions, adding that the PC, Xbox Series X, and PlayStation 5 versions are running smoothly.
