Blizzard has been making a large number of updates for World of Warcraft ahead of the upcoming expansion launch, World of Warcraft: Shadowlands. Releasing on November 23rd, there isn’t much time left to hone things to a fine edge.

But some of the changes aren’t being made directly to the game, as strange as that may sound. Instead, Blizzard has other facets of World of Warcraft that need to be updated and polished without even being in the game.

One example of this is the World of Warcraft Companion App, a smart phone app used to interact with the game when you aren’t able to make it to your computer to play properly.

The Companion App has plenty of uses, but the most common use is to complete Mission Table quests. This mechanic, active in Warlords of Draenor, Legion, and Battle for Azeroth is well-suited to mobile, as players mostly send followers on missions and then wait hours – or days, or even weeks, sometimes.

The mechanic will be returning for World of Warcraft: Shadowlands, which is a fact that has been met with mixed reviews. Blizzard has made updates to their app to accommodate this, as well as hone some of the older experiences.

At the release of World of Warcraft: Shadowlands, players will be able to use the app to play Adventures and manage their followers/companions. This will require players to have the system unlocked by playing far enough into the expansion in-game.

Players will also be able to see Shadowlands maps, World Quests, and Callings by using the app. This will also require in-game progress, specifically for players to have gone far enough to join a Covenant.

In terms of older content, Blizzard has made it so that the Mac’Aree World Quests from World of Warcraft: Legion will display properly. They’ve also fixed issues with Legion missions displaying the incorrect level after characters level up.

For both Legion and Battle for Azeroth, Blizzard has made it so that the mission success chance and bonus loot are displaying correctly, as well as ensuring that they don’t disappear completely, both of which were common bugs for the app.

Blizzard has also reverted the character sorting algorithm to be at “descending level.” Players can also use the app to sort by alphabetical instead if they prefer.

And those are the changes to the app! We have less than two weeks until the expansion drops, so make sure you update the app if you intend to make use of it!
