Each new event in Animal Crossing: New Horizons is highly anticipated as players begin to bleed content from the base game dry. For those rare players that don’t time travel out there, the first Bug Off of the season in the Northern Hemisphere is scheduled to take place on June 27th.

This event is located in the plaza, with everyone’s favorite bug fan Flick hosting. If you’ve participated in a Fishing Tourney with CJ in the past, this event is almost identical.

The rewards for this event however are fantastic, and it will take place every 4th Saturday of each month until September 26 from 9 a.m. until 6 p.m. For those in the Southern Hemisphere, you will have to wait until November 21st to participate and it will take place every 3rd Saturday.

The good news is this event is built into the game and is not seasonal. That means that players can simply travel to the appropriate date and farm this event as much as they wish without worrying about time expiring. However, to avoid burnout it is still smart to use your time wisely.

The rules for this event are simple. Players are let loose on their islands to catch bugs of all sorts for 3 minutes. The more bugs you catch, the more points you earn, with a bonus of points given out at 3 bugs. These points can then be exchanged for prizes, while the bugs you catch can be exchanged for bells with Flick if you so choose. Each prize is purchased using 10 points.

So what is the quickest way to earn all of the Bug-Off rewards? One surprising tip is to invite your friends! There are bonus points in store for players who participate with others on the same island, and this still counts if you are using multiple characters at one time on a single switch.

Players should also keep in mind that all bugs count for the same amount of points regardless of rarity. Besides the bonus at the 3 bug mark, each catch will only net 1 point at a time. This means that easy to catch insects like butterflies, dragonflies, and grasshoppers are more worth your time than ones that are just as likely to fly away.

The list of furniture that can be earned through the Bug-Off event includes:

  • Artisanal bug cage
  • Termite mound
  • Toy centipede
  • Toy cockroach
  • Bug aloha shirt
  • Ladybug umbrella
  • Bug wand
  • Butterfly backpack
  • Bug cage
  • Spider doorplate
  • Ladybug rug
  • Spider web
  • Butterflies wall

Additionally, there is a bronze, silver, and gold trophy that players can nab by earning enough points. Each trophy will be mailed to your player’s home after earning a total of 100, 200, and 300 points respectively.

That should be all the information you need to know about the upcoming Bug-Off event. Make sure to have your net at the ready, and be sure to tune back here in time for more Animal Crossing: New Horizons updates.
