Twitch had a bit of an issue to figure out when the face of the PogChamp emote, which has been spammed in chat well before Amazon came swinging a money-bag, started tweeting in support of the bizarre insurgency that many have labeled an attempted coup within the capitol building of Washington DC on January 6, 2021.

Twitch (along with third-party emote supplies such as FZZ and BTT) wasted next to no time in scrubbing the prior head of the PogChamp emote, but a rocky road was ahead as Twitch announced it would feature community faces in lieu of the former head – an idea that sounded fantastic originally.

Then, in standard modern-day Twitch fashion, they wasted no time leaping to the far side of the spectrum as the face of PogChamp was noted by some as being vehemently anti-white, a stance that some corporations seem to find more acceptable than anti-black.

This is an aspect that was debated the moment that it occurred, and the argument continues even now: Critical Bard, a writer of Critical Role, stated that ‘white lives don’t matter, at all’ then further continued that white isn’t a race, that people instead should be proud of being Scottish or Italian.

It sparked pseudo-outrage as race-baiting and arguments that are full of nuance are stripped to their bones and misrepresented on all sides to manufacture easy partisanship where the lines were drawn in the sand years ago and no new breakthroughs can apparently be made.

The event punctuated a frustrating day for Critical Bard that had the joy of wading through moronically racist tirades the entire day as a black face was given PogChamp of the day that has been cataloged through the brilliance of the internet and the rule that nothing published on the internet ever actually goes away.

Again, radicalized groups are continuing to take potshots at each other to continue race-baiting and flame-wars continue into 2021 because nothing really changes and ignorance can easily be perpetuated as thinking for oneself is, as it turns out, extremely difficult.

So as Twitch would push a new PogChamp every day, groups would scurry to find any type of dirt on the streamers that are living in front of cameras to generate some garbage controversy that results in manufactured outrage so they could keep literal bread on the table.

Not so with today’s PogChamp, KomodoHype. KomodHype may only be a temporary blessing where we don’t have to analyze social media patterns to discern who the ‘bad guys’ are and Twitch doesn’t have to spend an entire day desperately putting out fires and muting people on Twitter.

Bless the KomodoHype.
