The gaming industry just got an addition that may set up to be the next heavy hitters, and certainly one deserving a great amount of attention. Former Blizzard CEO Mike Morhaime announced today the founding of Dreamhaven, a new gaming development and publishing studio.

Dreamhaven won’t be going it alone, either. Along with the announcement came the announcement of two studios that will be working under the Dreamhaven umbrella, Secret Door and Moonshot Games.

Based in Irvine, California, the former CEO of Blizzard is far from the only notable name in the company – in fact, he’s far from the only former Blizzard employee. Dreamhaven and its companions are staffed almost exclusively by former-Blizzard developers.

“I’m excited to team up with such talented people who care deeply about games and their communities,” Morhaime said in his announcement. “I’ve always believed in the power of games to bring people together regardless of backgrounds or boundaries.”

“With Dreamhaven, we look forward to creating and sharing new experiences with players everywhere.”

So what makes Secret Door and Moonshot Games different, and why jump into the industry with two instead of focusing solely on one? Dreamhaven’s announcement doesn’t do much to outline the different functions between the two, unfortunately.

Obviously, both will be led by different teams, all of extremely notable backgrounds just as Morhaime himself is. One such name, Jason Chayes, had plenty to say in celebration:

“Though it’s very early days, when we think about Moonshot, we imagine a studio that celebrates curiosity and courage. We aspire to be bold in our approach, and we think the best way to do that is to create a culture centered around trust.”

Secret Door is certainly a match for the incredible talent that makes up Moonshot’s team, too. Discussing the future, studio head Chris Sigaty had the following comment to share:

“At Secret Door, we are passionate about bringing players together in positive ways while building a sustainable home for creators. Dreamhaven is providing everything we need to head into uncharted territory. We cannot wait for others to join us on our journey!”

While we can’t quite say for certain what the companies will be working on specifically, it seems that Dreamhaven must have some big plans if they’re making this much of a stamp on their production already. With both studios presumably working towards releases as we speak, it won’t be long before we’re discussing Morhaime’s new creation again.
