As most had expected, NetherRealm Studios locked Mortal Kombat 11’s cinematics to 30fps. This didn’t come much of a surprise considering that this has been a standard practice of the developer. However, a new mod for PCs has been able to find a workaround and remove this restriction.

Generally, the framerate of fighting games such as MK is locked at 60fps. There is a rationale behind this setting. Games of such genre must be played at 60 fps in order to get the best gaming experience. NetherRealm has decided to try a different approach and lock in its cinematics at 30fps.

As a result, when games such as Mortal Kombat 11 are run, they appear to be jarring. This is due to the multiple cinematics playing during the middle of the game. As a result, fatal blows, fatalities and a host of other “-alties” kicks in 30fps when they are triggered. Moreover, user interfaces are also tied in at 30fps., according to Game Revolution.

The recently released mod will address all of these concerns for MK 11. Endri Lauson is the brains behind the mod which removes the cap on both the framerate and UI. Furthermore, it modified how the game appears on Ultrawide displays. Before, black bars would usually appear on the space beyond the playfield. Not anymore.

In a YouTube video, Lauson said that Mortal Kombat 11 is a great game and should be played at 60fps. He also said that fans should be able to have great gaming experience. Moreover, the modder said the game’s crypt mode remains largely unoptimized. As a result, players who are using lower-end PCs may not be able to enjoy the mod’s enhancements.

Lauson also raised other concerns regarding the mod. There is a possibility that anti-virus programs could flag it. This happens when anti-virus programs treat the mod as a key logger when waiting for inputs to uncap the framerate. Additionally, anti-cheat software might treat the mod as a cheat.

In the meantime, NetherRealm has good news for Mortal Kombat 11 fans. The developer announced that it would be rolling out an update that would address issues related to Towers of Times. Aside from the patch, players will also be getting in-game freebies to compensate them for the game glitches, reported True Achievements.

Fans would enjoy rewards such as 500,000 Koins, 1,000 Soul Fragments, 500 Hearts, and 1,000 Time Crystals. These gifts are expected to help players as they journey through the Tower of Time. The Mortal Kombat 11 patch, which is expected to be rolled out this week, will lower AI difficulty and raise currency rewards.
