Tom Holland, who is playing the role of Nathan Drake in the Uncharted movie, said in a recent interview that the script for the video game’s movie adaptation is one of the best he’s ever read, as it’ll offer fans of the legendary Naughty Dog franchise an origin story, and provide them new information about the famed fictional treasure hunter.

While speaking with IGN, the lead actor of the Uncharted movie said the following regarding its script.

“I read the newest draft of the script on the way over here and it’s one of the best scripts I’ve ever read. It really, really jumps off the page.”

Over the last several months, the Uncharted movie has hired and lost several directors, and as of this writing, the movie still hasn’t found a new director. So, all signs seem to point to the script being just the opposite of how Holland sees it because it’s unlikely that a great movie script would drive off so many potential directors.

In the same interview, Holland talked about Mark Wahlberg, who was originally rumored to play the role of Nathan Drake, but is instead playing his mentor, Victor Sullivan, and said that he believes that Wahlberg is “going to kill it as Sully and it’s going to be a lot of fun.”

As of this writing, there are only two actors who have been cast for the movie, and both of them have already been mentioned: Mark Wahlberg and Tom Holland. Given that the movie is going to be a prequel to the games, it’s not likely that other characters from the game like Elena Fisher or Chloe Frazer will be included in the film. It’ll be interesting to see if the movie decides to involve Sam Drake, who is, as we learned in Uncharted 4: A Thief’s End, is Nathan’s older brother.

Even though Naughty Dog seemingly wrapped up Nathan Drake’s story in Uncharted 4, it looks like Sony is going to continue the franchise, but it’ll be developed by another studio. As of right now, it’s unclear if the fifth main installment to the franchise will feature Nathan as its main protagonist, or if it’ll feature his daughter, Cassie Drake, as the main character.

Nolan North, who is the voice actor for Nathan Drake, says he’d be willing to return for a fifth game, so if another Uncharted game is in development, it’ll likely feature the series’ longtime main protagonist.
