One of the hottest games that came out in 2018 was Red Dead Redemption 2. This Western action-adventure title won a ton of awards last year, including The Game Award for Best Narrative, Best Performance, Best Audio Design, and Best Score/Soundtrack.

As if its game-play and immersive environments weren’t enough, it now appears Rockstar Games – its developers – have added a battle royale mode for online play. Such developments have been pioneered by titans Fortnite and PlayerUnknown’s Battlegrounds, and Red Dead Redemption 2 is trying to cash in on this craze and give gamers more bang for their buck.

How It Works

The concept behind this battle royale mode is pretty simple. Gun Rush lets 32 players battle it out until only one remains. As time progresses, the stage shrinks. This forces players into fast-paced battles and quick-thinking tactical maneuvers where only one can reign supreme. As the area shrinks, players can build up their gun arsenal and ammo stock.

Team variations are also available for eager users looking to team up with some friends or online acquaintances. The new mode is currently in the beta-testing stages, with more features being added as the months progress.

The Impact

As mentioned earlier, Fortnite and Pubg have dominated the battle royale market ever since being introduced in 2017. Their meteoric-like rise has produced gaming sensations such as Ninja – sporting the iconic blue hair – and TSM Myth.

That being said, RDR 2 has amassed its own cult-like following and certainly has the capability to become a competitor in this online gaming market. What will be interesting to see is their latest feature additions. What types of modes will be included and what sorts of clothing customizations will there be?

One thing’s for certain. This new online addition gives gamers one of the most detailed and well-rounded games of all time. Whether you’ve been playing RDR 2 for months or have just picked up the title, these latest updates give PS4 and Xbox One users some incredible hours to look forward to.

Red Dead Redemption 2 has some of the best next-generation graphics and one of the most in-depth story modes, fully equipped with compelling side stories and character arches. Now, it’s poised to enter the battle royale market – a mode that should lead to all sorts of exciting opportunities for fans of this storied and beloved franchise. It seems like Rockstar Games can do no wrong and they’re just getting started.
