GungHo Online Entertainment recently released a new developer diary detailing the Season 2 for the free-to-play game Ninjala. Along with the announcement was news of the game’s first brand collaboration with Sonic the Hedgehog.

Season 2 began in late August. The new season introduced an additional “Shinobi City” stage, four Gum weapons such as the “Festival Board” and the “Home Run Surfer.” Fans will also get to take part in the Sonic the Hedgehog collaboration later this month. The developers also discussed the ongoing Ninjala short anime series.

The collaboration consists of special costumes based on the Sonic the Hedgehog series, decorations, weapons, and stickers. From the devlog, characters will get to use costume pieces that feature Sonic, Tails, Knuckles, and Dr. Eggman. The outfits are also reflected at the bottom left-hand portrait. The Sonic the Hedgehog collaboration begins on September 23 until October 21.

In early October, players will gain access to Featured Battle mode, which is different from the existing Battle Royale and team matches. The new mode will have various goals for players to complete. The first battle mode will be “Beast Attack.” Players will either play as the Beast or one of the ninja kids in a unique “tag” game.

The developers described the new mode in detail on YouTube:

The first Featured Battle mode will be called “Beast Attack!”. Similar in structure to the classic playground game of “tag”, some players will take on the role of the Beast while the remaining players attempt to avoid the Beasts’ attacks. Gain points by taunting and avoiding the Beasts for as long as possible, but beware, if a Beast catches and defeats you the roles will be reversed!

In Ninjala, players choose from a variety of ninja kid characters to battle online. Players can customize their characters to make them stand out among the rest. Characters use “Ninja-Gum” weapons, colorful items, and special abilities in each match. There are two modes: a Battle Royale-mode and 4 vs. 4 team battles across large stages.

Ninjala was released only a few months ago but has quickly become popular as a free-to-play online multiplayer digital download game. The game recently celebrated surpassing four million downloads worldwide.

Ninjala is a free-to-play game available now as a Nintendo Switch exclusive.
