Sony has been trying to make an Uncharted movie for over a decade now, and it finally looks like the film is coming together, at least according to Tom Holland, who will play Nathan Drake.

On Sunday, Holland went on Instagram live and gave an update on how filming is going, saying that it’s been everything he dreamed it would be. You can check out his live broadcast in the video below.

“Filming is going so well,” said Holland regarding the upcoming Uncharted movie. “The film is, like, everything I dreamed it would be. I mean, I don’t know if you guys played the games, but I was such a huge fan of the game, and it’s been going so well.”

If the movie ends up being successful, naturally, it’ll warrant a sequel, and according to We Got This Covered, if there’s a sequel, Tom Holland wants Dwayne “The Rock” Johnson to play the villain. For those who don’t know, the upcoming Uncharted movie will be Nathan Drake’s origin story, thus making it a prequel to the games, so The Rock won’t need to fill the role of any of the game’s villains.

“I think what Uncharted offers that most video games films don’t is that it’s an origin story to the games,” said Holland during his chat with IGN. “So if you played the games, you haven’t seen what’s going to happen in the film. And if you haven’t played the games, you’re going to enjoy the film because it’s information that everyone else is getting at the same time. But I’m super excited to make that movie and it’s been a long time coming.”

As of this writing, the Uncharted movie is scheduled to be released in theaters on July 16, 2021, barring any delays. Of course, the movie’s filming had to be pushed back due to the COVID-19 pandemic.

Back in February, Holland praised the script of the movie, saying that it’s one of the best scripts he’s ever read. He also added that Mark Wahlberg is going to “kill it” as Victor “Sully” Sullivan.

One person who isn’t excited about the Uncharted movie is Nolan North, who is the voice of Nathan Drake in the games, saying that, while he’s a fan of Mark Wahlberg, he doesn’t think that he’s right guy to play Sully.

Given that the Uncharted film is going to be Nathan Drake’s origin story, it won’t feature Elena Fisher, but it’ll be interesting to see if it’ll feature Sam Drake, who was introduced as Nate’s brother in Uncharted 4: A Thief’s End.
