There are no plans to make physical collectible cards based on the digital game, Legends of Runeterra.

This was confirmed by Riot Games executives in a recent interview regarding the new League of Legends spinoff.

Andrew Yip, design director for the game, said they have several influences in developing the Legends of Runeterra. However, the two that made the most mark are Hearthstone and Magic: The Gathering. Both digital games have physical trading cards, however.

In an interview with PCGamesN, Yip sees the possibility of a physical trading card version for the digital game. However, it could simply be a one-off. He doesn’t see any plans for sustained production of trading cards based on the Legends of Runeterra universe.

He said that they started the game with the digital format in mind. It was optimized for the digital format. With that said, all the stars must first fall into place before people can enjoy it as a real-life experience.

Andrew Silver, associate art director for the game, echoed Yip’s statements. He said the studio is not about to overextend itself by venturing into something it is not equipped to handle. They are a digital studio, and they want to leverage their strengths to create a new experience for players.

The Legends of Runeterra is a digital action card game, which is part of the League of Legends universe. Those familiar with Hearthstone would positively love this game. One interesting aspect of this game is fans would no longer be hit with blind packs. They have more control over their deck with the monetization model.

In the game, you need to summon heroes and creatures in the aim to subdue an opponent. You will also pick spells with the purpose of bringing your enemy’s life to zero. Those who played League of Legends would be familiar with some of the characters in Legends of Runeterra. The LOL heroes will play a very significant role in the digital collectible card game. They can help the game quickly swing in your favor.

According to Riot Games, fans would be able to purchase any card they want through the in-game currency. Of course, they can also buy the card using their credit cards. In this way, you have more control of your destiny and not let the game’s algorithm determine your luck.

The Legends of Runeterra will be released on both mobile devices and on PC in 2020.
