Publisher JanduSoft S.L. and Grimorio of Games have announced the slight delay of Sword of the Necromancer. This marks the second delay for the title that was planning to launch on December 10. The game is one of the latest to push back its release date to the pushed back launch of CyberPunk 2077, but CD Projekt Red’s decision isn’t the only reason.

The announcement was made on Kickstarter. The developer wanted to avoid being launched around the same time as the highly-anticipated game CyberPunk 2077 and some issues getting the title approved to launch on the Nintendo Switch.

Sword of the Necromancer’s launch date wasn’t too close to the release of CyberPunk 2077, but it is true that many are anxiously awaiting the release. This means that other games that wanted to launch within the month are deciding to push back their launch date to get noticed at the risk of upsetting fans.

The announcement went further into the approval process. The publisher sent the game in to get console certification at the start of the month for PlayStation 4, Xbox One, and the Nintendo Switch. The first two consoles passed without any issues, but the game failed one specific test for the Nintendo Switch. This means that the developer had to resolve the issue, then send it back in for approval.

The specific issue was that the game’s screen appeared to be cropped when forcing a 480p resolution on a 1080p screen. The developer tried to move forward and request a release day patch, but Nintendo once again refused. After the issue was resolved, the game had to go through the entire certification process with Nintendo again.

Sword of the Necromancer is a dungeon-crawling action RPG with roguelike elements. As Tama, players can revive their defeated enemies and command them to aid in battle using the Sword of the Necromancer‘s forbidden powers.

Tama’s primary objective is the reach the depths of the dungeons and gain enough power to bring Koko back from the dead. If Tama is defeated before finishing the game, they will lose all of their equipped weapons and monsters but retain half the level achieved during the run.

Tama can use a variety of weapons and objects in the fluid head-to-head battle system. The character will upgrade their stats by fighting, along with the reanimated enemies now fighting beside them. The title also contains local co-op play, so players don’t have to fight alone.
