In Scarlet Hood and the Wicked Wood, players get to explore a unique indie title from developer Devespresso Games. This is the same developer behind “The Coma” series, and now they are releasing a new story-driven fantasy puzzle title. This game is scheduled to launch onto Steam in April, but fans can enjoy the free demo available now in Steam Early Access until then.

Rather than launching in several sections over the course of a predetermined period of time, the developer will be launching this title in its entirety. Players can find Scarlet Hood and the Wicked Wood on Steam, and it will be available in English, Korean, German, French, Russian, Chinese, and Spanish.

Scarlet Hood and the Wicked Wood will feature the signature hand-illustrated “manhwa-style” that Devespresso is known for. Explore a non-linear story written by T.L. Riven as you explore a world inspired by the Wizard of Oz. This is a unique title with a reoccurring time loop that gives players multiple paths to choose from with multiple endings.

Enter Scarlet, the protagonist and the diva of the store. After she awakes in the realm of Glome, she will discover a wide world full of magic, beauty, and artifacts. She will become the Red Witch and lead a troupe of Munchkins into the Wicked Woods.

It is not long before she realizes that she has been cursed with a Recursion Hex. This causes her to relive the same day over and over, with each death opening up new avenues to explore. Solve puzzles, find clues, and make it through the woods.

The title allows players to relive seven days of misfortune and experience a series of decisions that will revolve around the safety of your Munchkin troupe. This is a branching story full of exciting puzzles, and key decisions will permanently affect the story and how it evolves.

Players have many threats to contend with, including the evil black witch and a hungry wolf. These threats will be waiting at every turn, and players will need to remember important clues if they are to outmaneuver either danger.

This title is inspired, simple, and is filled with indie charm. Although the title is fairly complete, it is very reminiscent of the flash-game era. From the way that the animations move to the continued support of the story, this title could easily have come from a different age in gaming.

Theme wise, this title is good for players of all ages. It has a charming storybook quality that is sure to fascinate kids while enchanting adults.
