Many fans are expecting a remake of Resident Evil 4. A recent leak showing some 3D model assets might confirm that not only is the game coming, but an announcement of its release might be forthcoming as well.

A recent hack of Capcom‘s plans for the next four years revealed the rumored existence of many projects, one of which was Resident Evil 4.

Even before the leak was public knowledge, everyone had already assumed that Resident Evil 4 would be getting the remake treatment, especially after the remakes of Resident Evil 2 and 3 performed so well.

Resident Evil 3, specifically, was very well received, releasing earlier this year on the PlayStation 4 and Xbox One.

Speculation is ongoing among every corner of the horror franchise’s massive fandom regarding changes and upgrades to the gameplay of the original. The game would also undoubtedly benefit from the enhanced power and decreased load times of the recently released PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series X.

GadgetGang has reported that 80 3D models were leaked in the form of screenshots onto the dark web. These models were tied to Resident Evil 4. The images in question eventually ended up on Imgur last week.

The renderings are still in progress and they’re nothing super special. They were mostly props, showing off jars, dinner utensils, food, candles, and more, all from varying angles. There were reference images included as to what they were modeled after as well.

No character assets appear to have leaked, with nothing being a potential spoiler as of yet. Though many have surmised that if and when this remake happens, it’s going to differ greatly from the original.

Resident Evil 4 was first released on the Nintendo GameCube back in 2005. Eventually, the game was ported to other consoles.

It follows the story of Leon S. Kennedy, a US special agent who is no stranger to Resident Evil fans. He is given the job of rescuing the daughter of the US president from a European village that is infested with zombies.

The original game was met with great reviews, as many felt it broke the mold of previous titles in the series.

The controls were also overhauled in this version, which would become the standard for over the shoulder camera work in third-person games like Mass Effect and Gears of War.

As with all rumors, take this with a massive grain of salt. These rumors have not been verified and it is unlikely that Capcom would make a comment on their validity until they’re ready to fully announce the game.
