Remedy Entertainment has released several popular titles, including the Max Payne series, Quantum Break, award-winning Control, and Alan Wake.

Alan Wake is a Psychological Action Thriller title available on both Steam and Xbox 360. More than two years ago, the title was removed from the Microsoft Store.

The official website description states: “When the wife of the best-selling writer Alan Wake disappears on their vacation, his search turns up pages from a thriller he doesn’t even remember writing. A dark presence stalks the small town of Bright Falls, pushing Wake to the brink of sanity in his fight to unravel the mystery and save his love. With the body of an action game and the mind of a psychological thriller, Alan Wake is a pulse-pounding thrill ride.”

While the game was a hit with many players, it was removed from both the Microsoft Store and Steam in May 2017.

The game was removed from the Microsoft Store because several of the music licenses were set to expire. The game featured a soundtrack by many popular artists and was very well received. With a game that uses music from bands, the licenses have to be renewed so that everyone involved can be paid.

Alan Wake was added back onto Steam in October 2018. While Steam players could enjoy the game, which was often sold at a significant discount, Xbox One players couldn’t buy and download it from the Microsoft Store.

Previously, the only way for Xbox One owners could play Alan Wake was to buy a physical copy of the game.

While Alan Wake was initially released on the Xbox 360, it is part of the backward compatible program and runs without issues on the Xbox One.

Alan Wake has officially been re-added to the Microsoft Store, several months after its re-release on steam. It’s currently available for $19.99 but may be cheaper during Microsoft Store sales.

Alan Wake is also available on the Epic Games Store. In July 2019, the game was released free alongside For Honor. It’s possible the game may be released again for free for those with an Epic Games Store account.

Alan Wake is available now on PC via Steam, Epic Game Store, and the Microsoft Store.
