Sony began rolling out system software update 25.04-11.40.00 for PS5 across regions. Meanwhile, PlayStation’s official account gave this cryptic justification: “improvements to messages and usability on some screens.” But these interactive players have already formed opinions of their own.
Let’s consider the update. Not so great of an overhaul here; it treads around with a tweak here, a touch there. The lighter patch notes1 are mostly focused on fixing some messaging issues and further UI tweaks, whereas players are far from pleased. The tweet’s replies are flooded fully with demands for greater and core features: Where is Discord Streaming integration? Folder for Home screens? Worse, do we even exist without Dolby Vision?
One user, @tnt_0n, outright requested from Worth: “We want streaming on Discord from PS5.” And honestly? Same. This ability has been one that the community has wanted for the longest time. Xbox has this feature already. Another user, @shenmeowzo, pleaded, “Just give us folders on the homescreen ffs.” Seriously, Sony, why you holding out on us?
Then there were more grumblings about the VRR. @chalkfist bemoaned that there was no fix for 120Hz VRR frametime bug, and others joined in with their respective annoyances. Some gamers would like to see FreeSync also come over for HDMI 2.0 screens, which would be nice.
Meanwhile, amidst the criticism, a few voices showed appreciation. @texasdeathriot was one of those, stating, “Thanks Sony for making a better working console than Xbox 👊.” Then, @Yoblapyo was hyped for any update: “Finally omg I have been waiting for a new patch.”
Of course, one guy had to outshine everything. @xxBiozonexx channeled Satan: “I want something cool in my next update like the ability to drone strike children in Palestine.” Um… Okay, moving along.
With staggered rollout, it also means that not everyone is getting this at the same time. But if they are hungry enough for this little glory, they can actually manually install it by following the official guide. Yet, honestly? Well, unless you’re really into some slight improvements to messaging, this is notreally going to be phenomenal for you.
Nonetheless, the least this proves is that Sony will give some thought to keeping software updated. Maybe in their next update, they will finally grant a couple of those highly requested features. Or just bring back themes. As @ChrisCabrera26 said: “Bring back the theme startup.”
As of now, it’s just one more tiny step for a PS5 software update journey. Hopefully, the forthcoming update carries some weight—or maybe folders.
