PlayStation asked a simple but loaded question: “Unmissable, unforgettable. Which gaming characters truly stand out in your mind?” Where upon the answers throughout were a potpourri of nostalgia, in-the-moment hype, and outright chaos. As if the PS5 community rose and banged their picks on the table, from the classics to some spicy salsas.
The classics got flowers first. Names like Nathan Drake (Uncharted), Jin Sakai (Ghost of Tsushima), and Lara Croft (Tomb Raider) were thrown right there on the table. I think Carsten G. Clausen nailed it with: “Astro Bot, Nathan Drake, Jin Sakai, Lara Croft.” Nobody can really argue since these characters have been on the forefront of PlayStation’s winds of change for the last several years. I mean seriously—who can resist a witty Nathan Drake quotation in the middle of a gunfight?
And this is where it got interesting. Soulbound TV gave the perfect shoutout to Kratos of God of War fame by saying “Kratos is the only man I’d follow into battle and family therapy.” Hard agree there! Equally once again just another “ALOY THE GOAT” from DevsAdvocate with a fiery passion that shows this mountain-slaying heroine got the fans still supremely backing her.
Some for sure felt it wasn’t the time for love. These were—little pun intended—the ones throwing dirt on recent events in PlayStation World. “Nobody cares about your woke Movie games, we playing on switch 2,” screeched Dean2__. Ouch. FHokonavt went on, “Astro Bot is a Mario clone slop,” which… okay, that’s a take. Wrong one, but a take.
An extra amount of rank randomness fueled the mayhem. South Tyrol CR gave: “Diego from Gothic, Alice from TLOU2, and Clementine from TWD.” Wait, Alice from The Last of Us Part II? Who’s Alice? Did we miss a character? Meanwhile, Emersom_Biggins went for, “Only Astro Bot and the cats from Monster Hunter stand out. Most of your iconic characters you’ve let die, tbh.” Harsh but fair – RIP Joel stans.
On the contrary, a PlayStation thread would never be complete without clamoring for news. KoreiaJr tagged Capcom asking, “Where is Pragmata?” NathanDrakePS6 meanwhile pleaded, “Uncharted 5 ASAP.” Elsewhere, osrous sniffed, “Smells like a State of Play is coming.” Is this tweet precisely teasing something? Or was it just PlayStation stirring the pot?
Now, the responses went meta after a while. KayJay! swerved and called out PlayStation Plus: “Can we talk about the BS ps plus games you’re giving us?” Right on! stonesandsnakes cryptically replied, “No marathon! @PaulTassi @Skarrow9.” What marathon? Why tag those two? Mystery remains.
At the end of the day, what this thread said for sure was: these PlayStation characters get etched into the memories of the people. Whether it is the charm of Ratchet & Clank (shoutout to ShadowKillerX), the wrath of Kratos, or even the polarizing opinions on some of the newer ones, these characters ignite debates, memeing, and pure loyalty.
