With the NBA Finals heating up, the NBA 2K MyTEAM is running some real-time action on the virtual hardwood. Round 4 of The Playoff Spotlight Sim is sometimes live, giving players a chance at some serious firepower for their teams.
Alright, fun part: The gamers use their Round 3 Dark Matter players to grind out 100 OVR cards of the two NBA Finals teams that are left. Frankly, the real reward is the Invincible Player from this year’s championship team for anyone who finishes all of the Finals challenges. This is a late-game card that very few will ever actually see, much less use, without some level of skill and dedication!
The community reaction… well, mixed would be an understatement. Quite a few players, among them @lillard_cody, have been riding the hype train:”Best 2k to date 🔥”. Some have just turned sour from grind fatigue; in a sarcastic tone, @BalloutCa wrote: “Yay we have to buy 15 players to complete a challenge to win one player 😂🤧💀”.
That being said, the challenges are no joke. @bundy80000 gave a little whine: “8 three pointers in 5 mins.. it’s a bit though. I scored 7.. a couple times..”. Meanwhile, @luvhimorhatehim pretty much summed up the grinders’ dilemma: “I’m just grinding for what I hope isn’t a horrible invincible.”
Card speculation is flying in the replies. @BBrownlike56646 muses: “Should be chet and it could be a locker code options pack,” whereas @Car86266Matthew shared: “Thoughts on 2 Jalen cards in this playoffs spotlight? Eww really wanted a 100 overall Chet or even a better SGA.”
Discussing the situation of MyTEAM has always been somewhat of a debate. @PlayoffAdebayo went off with some real talk: “I’ve spent less than 1k on the game this year but I’ll spend $100 on a hof box before I sit there and play for 20 hours for a ‘free’ card”. @98VintageTee quickly fired back with, “2k don’t care about you, bro, but keep on giving them $1000’s just to give you duplicates you can’t sell”.
The scope of discussion ranging from which cards are worth getting for team builders can go on for hours. @Tah2027 made an argument in favor of MJ: “Why would you Not get MJ ? I get his shot is kinda off but his defense is Odee !” whereas @BrayanE09017839 responded with: “Bro get bol, I really hope you got him because grabbing castle is just dumb bol is way better”.
The MyTEAM grind is reaching its climax just as the NBA Finals are drawing to a close. Tracking that Invincible card or at least enjoying the journey is what has glued the players to 2K. The question real will go down in time: Is that reward really gonna be worth all the hours spent in the lab? Time (and maybe some locker codes) will tell.
