Nintendo recently announced they were releasing a unique Animal Crossing: New Horizons-themed Nintendo Switch. The announcement was a surprise to fans, who were hoping Nintendo was planning something special for the newest Animal Crossing game.

The special edition Nintendo Switch is around the same price as a normal console, but even at the same price, it may still be too expensive for gamers.

Nintendo Japan is offering a solution: an empty box of the limited edition Animal Crossing: New Horizon Nintendo Switch.

Animal Crossing: New Horizons is the newest and first title in the series on the Nintendo Switch. The game is also the first HD title in Animal Crossing, so players will be able to enjoy a more high-quality experience.

The Animal Crossing: New Horizons console boxes are under $10 and arrive unassembled. Players will have to assemble the box themselves, but Nintendo has an informative tutorial on how to put the box together. The box also does not come with any packaging or any other printed materials that usually comes packaged with a Nintendo Switch console.

So that players don’t try to buy the boxes and resell them to unsuspecting buyers, the box doesn’t have the Warranty information or a barcode.

This isn’t the first time that Nintendo has sold empty boxes. Previously, the company has sold empty Splatoon 2 boxes.

Players may wonder what they can do with an empty cardboard box. It may be a collectors’ piece that only a few can enjoy. The box can be used as a gift box or as a display piece. Since the empty box is only available on the Japanese Nintendo website at this time, players in other countries can buy it to display in their Animal Crossing collection.

Often, packaging for products come damaged or may get torn while opening. Nintendo’s printed empty box ensures that players will have an empty box in great condition.

The Animal Crossing: New Horizons-themed Nintendo Switch will be released on March 13, around one week before the release of the game. The console is available for preorder now through numerous retailers but doesn’t contain any preorder bonuses. The game is not included with the console.

Animal Crossing: New Horizons is scheduled to launch on March 20, 2020.
