Spike Chunsoft has announced the mobile release of Danganronpa 2: Goodbye Despair on mobile. The announcement comes a few months after the launch of Danganronpa: Trigger Happy Havoc, which is the first game in the series.

Danganronpa 2: Goodbye Despair is a sequel to the original and first launched in Japan in 2012. The game was later released in North America on the PS Vita, PC, and as part of a PlayStation 4 collection called Danganronpa 1•2 Reload.

Similar to the previous game, the visual novel was ported for mobile devices with touch controls. Players use the left part of the screen to navigate and the right side to control the camera.

Danganronpa 2: Goodbye Despair is a sequel to the first game, where a group of high school students is yet again placed in a murderous game against their will. The students of Hope’s Peak Academy thought they were visiting Jabberwock Island for a fun vacation, but Monokuma makes its return. It’s up to the player to solve the island’s mysteries through exploration and solving mini-puzzles.

As the game progresses, characters begin to drop. Since the classmates appear to be the only visitors on the island, the protagonist Hajime Hinata has to investigate each incident and see how they’re linked. The classmates also begin to accuse each other, which makes the situation even tenser.

Danganronpa 2: Goodbye Despair will be further optimized for touch screen operations. A few additional features will also be added, such as a Gallery Mode. In the Gallery, players can view different facial expressions of their favorite characters or hear voiced lines. It’s a bonus for those who want to see their favorite characters again in an easily accessible way.

While the mobile version of the game doesn’t add any additional gameplay, it’s now more accessible for players who don’t own a Vita or PlayStation 4.

The former publisher, NIS America, has announced plans to remove many Danganronpa games from the PlayStation Store at the end of August. The mobile versions of the series may soon be one of the few ways players can play the game if they don’t already own them or have the physical editions. Fortunately, there have been no announcements to remove the games from Steam.

Danganronpa 2: Goodbye Despair is scheduled to launch on mobile devices on August 20 in Japan.
