They certainly hit the ground running with this latest event, which featured a ton of PS5 games coming out for the next-gen console. There were a lot of great reveals, but for many, God of War 5 or Ragnarok stole the show.

The God of War series has always been an important bargaining chip for Sony. Each time they’ve released a new console, a new God of War game surely followed. It’s hard not to repeat this recipe. This franchise is beloved by many. Kratos — a powerful god known for the Chains of Olympus — is one of the most iconic video game characters ever.

The teaser for the follow up to God of War (2018) didn’t show much, but it did have a lot of  elements found in the most recent installment from SIE Santa Monica Studio. That includes the iconic score, Kratos’ voice from the exceptional voice actor from the previous installment, and a foreboding message at the end signaling that Ragnarok is coming.

If you aren’t familiar, Ragnarok is the final destruction of the world according to Norse mythology. If you played the last God of War, the way things ended set up a sequel in a big way.

Despite Kratos and his son Atreus (Loki) going to hell and back, there still awaits Thor and Odin himself. There were a lot of twists and turns in the story and it seems Kratos is on a collision course with them both.

Will Ragnarok come about and bring about the end of days? That’s what you’ll get to find out in God of War 5, which is targeted to release on the PS5 in 2021.

The race between the Xbox Series X and PS5 will surely be a tight one, but if there’s any game that will become a console pusher and help edge a company early on, it’s God of War 5.
