Skybound Games has announced The Walking Dead: The Telltale Definitive Series is now available on Steam. This is the first time the full collection has been available on the digital platform. The series was initially released on PlayStation 4, Xbox One, and the Epic Games Store in September 2019, but now more players can experience Telltale Games‘ take on the series created by Robert Kirkman.
The Walking Dead: The Telltale Definitive Series is the complete collection of all of the previously released games. They include all four seasons of the main game, 400 Days Later, and The Walking Dead: Michonne. The 400 Days Later story can be played after the first season, while Michonne’s story is slightly different. Her side story explains where she was located after separating from Rick’s group temporarily in the comics.
The Walking Dead: The Telltale Definitive Series contains over 50 hours of gameplay with around 23 unique episodes. The collection includes ten hours of developer commentary, behind-the-scenes bonus features, concept and character art galleries, Return of The Walking Dead short documentary, recreations of the classic menus, and a music player with over 140 musical tracks.
The collection also adds a “graphic black” art style that pays homage to the black-and-white comics and is previously only available for The Final Season. Overall, the game significantly improved the overall gameplay. This includes character performances, lip-syncing, and other additional enhancements so players can have a better experience.
The Walking Dead: The Telltale Definitive Series primarily focuses on the growth of a young girl named Clementine. She begins her story trapping herself in her family treehouse to avoid the zombies, or “walkers” as they are known in the series’ universe, and is taught how to survive by a kind stranger named Lee. Clementine’s story takes place over several years and follows her as she grows into a tough survivor.
Players have to help Clementine make difficult choices, participate in some of the tense action scenes, and even decide on who to trust, either as a friend or something more. Clementine can’t save everyone, but the decision is left up to the player.
The popular series has sold millions of episodes since it initially launched in 2012, earned more than 100 Game of the Year Awards, and two BAFTA Video Game Awards for “Best Story.”
Those who already purchased the episodes separately, or as a season pass, unfortunately, won’t get this collection free. Since it contains so much additional content, previous owners will have to purchase The Walking Dead: The Telltale Definitive Series.
While reading the comics would enhance the experience of the games, it is not necessary to read them before playing the game.
