Blizzard is working hard to get World of Warcraft ready for World of Warcraft: Shadowlands to release on November 23rd. With so much on their plate, some players are confused to see one of the changes they decided to make.
Blizzard has applied a nerf to a high amount of trinkets from the Battle for Azeroth expansion of the title, hitting down a handful of fan-favorites from multiple different phases of the expansion’s content.
As a note, these nerfs are not live on the live servers yet, but have been applied to the beta for Shadowlands. It’s assumed that these alterations will be pushed out with the 9.0.2 patch that releases tomorrow.
There are 15 trinkets being nerfed all in all, primarily PvE content from raids and dungeons. Two of the items are from PvP content, while one is a craftable trinket.
These three are the Corrupted Aspirant’s Badge, Corrupted Aspirant’s Insignia, and the Highborne Compendium of Storms. These nerfs are rather heavy, halfing the stat bonus given in some situations and decreasing the strength of the items as a whole.

Past that, we have the following items being nerfed:
- Vita-Charged Titanshard
- Torment in a Jar
- Writihing Segment of Drest’agath
- Manifesto of Madness
- Ashvane’s Razor Coral
- Azshara’s Font of Power
- Dead-Eye Spyglass
- Vial of Animated Blood
- Galecaller’s Boon
- Lustrous Golden Plumage
- Harlan’s Loaded Dice
- Tiny Electromental in a Jar
Needless to say, that’s a pretty extensive list, and there’s a good chance that most well-geared characters are rocking one or even two of these items. If you have both of your trinket slots taken up by items on this list, you can expect a pretty significant decrease in power when these changes go live.
It isn’t quite known why the developers have decided to nerf these items ahead of launch, as they’re almost certainly going to be replaced within a few hours of playtime in the Shadowlands anyway. Why slap players in the face by decreasing their power right before the launch?
It also doesn’t help that these items are among the best items in the game for most classes, meaning that players likely spent a considerable amount of time grinding for them at some point. Vita-Charged Titanshard especially is among the most sought-after items from Battle for Azeroth.
The same could be said for Ashvane’s Razor Coral, which remained one of the best-in-slot items for many DPS classes and specializations. Why Blizzard is deciding to nerf them so heavily now that they’re barely relevant is unknown, but many players are peeved to have their power cut so drastically as we approach the expansion’s launch.
