Lego and Nintendo are collaborating for a new interactive Super Mario Bros. toy set. The product was announced on social media along with a short YouTube trailer showcasing the new product.
The set will include a Mario figure with a digital display on his chest. Other items include enemies, a warp pipe, flag pole, and more.
It’s not yet known how many sets Lego will release with the Super Mario Bros. theme.
The trailer for the set only contains children interacting with the toys but is an all-ages toy that all Super Mario Bros. fans can enjoy. The Mario figure has some special features, such as making noise and showing various graphics, such as a coin. Mario’s face also has a screen, showcasing different emotions.
It’s not yet know how many pieces will come with the Super Mario Bros. sets. Many of the promotional images show kids creating various platform levels that have a Piranha Plant, Bowser Jr., and Goombas. The enemies don’t have any electronic parts like the Mario figure but appear to move when Mario jumps on various buttons.
The Lego x Super Mario collaboration is one of the first interactive physical toy sets featuring the Super Mario Bros. series with Lego. Nintendo has previously released games that let players create unique levels.
Although it’s only available as a video game, the Super Mario Maker series lets players create custom levels and play levels created by others. The most recently released game in the series is Super Mario Maker 2 for the Nintendo Switch.
“Now you can play, create, and share the side-scrolling Super Mario courses of your dreams in the Super Mario Maker 2 game, available exclusively on the Nintendo Switch system! Dive into the single-player Story Mode and play built-in courses to rebuild Princess Peach’s castle. Make your own courses, alone or together.” states the game’s official summary.
Super Mario Maker 2 is also available to play online with a Switch Online membership. It’s unknown if the game will have any online features or only be available to play with in person, similar to other Lego toys.
The Lego and Super Mario Bros. collaboration set will be released in 2020. The exact release date is not yet known.
