Nioh 2 is set in the Warring States period of Japan in the year 1555. A never-ending war has turned the nation into a land of chaos infested by demons, evil spirits, and much more looking to feed upon the innocents of the land.

It is amidst this war that a rogue mercenary hunting down yokai int he Mino Province appears. This demon hunter is the protagonist of the game, but he hides a terrible secret. This man is a half-breed between a human and a yokai. Shamed among the humans and unable to live among the demons, this man has sworn to live the life of the demon hunter, alone.

Things get worse when one day, the hero loses control of his yokai power when in a heated battle against a dangerous beast. Things get better when he meets a wandering merchant named Toukichiro, who sells him a “Spirit Stone.” This stone is a magic artifact that allows our hero to communicate with the yokai and regain control of his demonic half.

The lore and story of this game is layers upon layers deep. It will take hours to dig through all the subtle clues hidden among the trailers, game, and story. Fans will enjoy the level of complexity hidden among this game’s story.
