The manga spinoff based on the Sekiro: Shadows Die Twice is expected to come out next month.

A peek of what to expect in the upcoming manga titled Sekiro Gaiden: Shinazu Hanbei was released on April 26. Yen Press is publishing the manga in close partnership with From Software.

The story description leaves one hanging as it doesn’t really give any juicy details. Fans already know that the setting is during the Sengoku period. The manga said that each battle is very important as it could have significance to the greater war.

Isshin Ashina, dubbed the Sword Saint, wants to rule Medieval Japan but Hanbei has other plans.

Of course, everybody knows that Hanbei has become a zombie in Sekiro: Shadows Die Twice. He’s been known by many names but also as the fallen soldier in the dilapidated temple. He’s also known as the Immortal Hanbei and the Immortal Soldier.

Hanbie is the training partner of Sekiro, which is quite convenient as the hero can go all out. After all, the soldier is already dead. Hanbei’s main mission is to look for the Mortal Blade so he can finally die.

The soldier can be found at the shrine on top of the snowy path in the dilapidated temple. When Sekiro meets him, Hanbei immediately recognizes that he’s a skilled warrior. He then challenges Sekiro to a battle.

You can unlock several skills while fighting Hanbei, so he’s a very important part of the mission.

But why can’t he be killed?

Apparently, he has been infected with centipede that allows him to continue living despite being literally dead. It’s thought that the Sekiro: Shadows Die Twice manga spinoff will explain how Hanbei was infected with the centipede.

The Twitter page of Yen Press also gave more tease of what to expect in Sekiro manga spinoff. But then again, it’s just a bunch of words that don’t really offer much without context.

Apparently, the world is in turmoil. Friends, enemies, and immortals have their own agendas and secrets. Now, it’s up to one person to restore balance to the world. Is the person being referred to is The Sword Saint or the Immortal Soldier?

The Sekiro Gaiden: Shinazu Hanbei was created by Shin Yamamoto, who also supervised the Monster Hunter: Flash Hunter manga.

With Yamamoto at the helm, you can expect plenty of gore and blood. That’s two be expected when two warriors are on a collision course that will decide the fate of Japan.
