Ubisoft has a new entry in the Prince of Persia series, but it’s much different than gamers would expect. Prince Of Persia: The Dagger Of Time is a new VR escape room experience. The game was announced earlier this year but has now started rolling out in VR arcades.

The VR escape room for the game is a multiplayer experience. A team of up to four players band together to solve puzzles and use artifacts to stop, rewind, or fast-forward time. Players receive a special Medallion of Time so they’re not affected by the time-changing powers of the dagger.

The game was developed by Ubisoft Düsseldorf, which is based in Germany. The development team also created two Assassin’s Creed VR escape rooms, Beyond Medusa’s Gate, and Escape the Lost Pyramid.

Prince Of Persia: The Dagger Of Time is based on the Sands of Time trilogy. In a virtual, room-scale physical space, players virtually climb and use magical powers familiar to the series to escape the Fortress of time. They also have to work together to stop an army of Sand Monsters from leaving the compound. An NPC named Kaileena was also incorporated into the experience to guide players through the game.

Ubisoft has begun to roll out trailers for Prince Of Persia: The Dagger Of Time. The trailer is only available on its YouTube channels in Europe but gives players a preview of some of the interactive action through VR.

While some action parts are shown, players aren’t physically required to run through the compound. Ubisoft has previously stated that there are additional options for users with limited mobility, such as a one-button control system.

Cyril Voiron, the Executive Producer for Ubisoft Escape Games, spoke more about the game in an interview:

First, just like for Assassin’s Creed, we want to make sure that if you are a fan, you feel that we have treated the IP with respect. Second, time control is the key element in our VR escape room, much like in the Prince of Persia games. So we built the experience around this function, seeing where it might fit and how players can use the time manipulation to solve puzzles cooperatively. Something different is that we don’t have any fights against enemies. Our VR escape rooms are meant for gamers and non-gamers alike; therefore, we concentrate on puzzle elements and co-op gameplay.

Prince Of Persia: The Dagger Of Time is coming soon to multiple VR arcades across the world in the near future.
