During The Game Awards, Studio Wildcard announced ARK: The Animated Series. The show is based on the dinosaur series but won’t debut until 2022. Along with the announcement were an extended trailer and the voice cast, which is filled with well-known actors.
ARK: The Animated Series will consist of fourteen 30-minute episodes and currently has two seasons in production. The story stars Australian paleontologist Helena Walker, who is currently living in the modern day. After a tragedy, she awakens on the ARK. The new world is populated with dinosaurs, and other creatures once thought extinct.
With the help of some friends and potential enemies, Helena is forced to learn how to survive and co-exist in the new world. Helena is always at risk, either from predators or ruthless warlords. At the same time, she is trying to learn the truth behind this strange land and maybe how to return home.
Studio Wildcard is working with Director Jay Oliva, who previously worked on Batman: The Dark Knight Returns and Justice League: The Flashpoint Paradox. Oliva will work as executive producer and co-showrun the animated television series. Animation studio Lex and Otis is working on the series, along with music composed by Garth Coker, who is known for work on Ori and the Will of the Wisps.
The game’s creators, Jeremy Stieglitz and Jesse Rapczck, are also working as executive producers. It was previously announced that Vin Diesel was joining Studio Wildcard as President of Creative Convergence and as executive producer of ARK 2 and the animated series.
Diesel’s newly revealed character, Santiago, will appear in ARK 2 and also in ARK: The Animated Series. The actor will also lend his voice to bring the character to life.
The trailer and promotional posts showcase some of the voice talent announced to be working on the adaptation. They include Karl Urban, Russell Crowe, Michelle Yeoh, Devesh Jacobs, Madeline Madden, David Tennant, Elliot Page, and more.
Jeremy Stieglitz stated:
Being able to mix together fantastic characters from throughout human history is one of the unique joys of telling stories within the ARK universe. But more than that, this series is a deeply personal narrative about love and grief, and the ways in which those two most-powerful emotions manifest in different people. Plus, of course, taming and riding dinosaurs!
ARK: The Animated Series will debut in 2022.
