A guy posted what looks like legit Revenant concept art on Twitter, and the entire Apex Legends community lost it. That grainy, moody picture gives a hint of what appears to have been the very first design for everyone’s favorite murderbot, yet totally different from what he looks like in the game now. No official confirmation yet from Respawn, but something about the details here feels that unmistakably Titanfall-era art style… suspiciously authentic?
This leaked image (won’t get reposted here, scaring us with copyright lawyers) shows Revenant to be humanoid like, with less of that creepy metallic skull vibe. Arm blades look more like prototype versions – chunkier, less refined. And check this – he has what looks like Hammond Robotics logos partially scratched out across his chest plate.
That last bit has lore hunters foaming at the mouth because… well, if you know Revenant’s background, you know why that matters.
No reply at all on the original tweet, which is strange because normally Apex leaks get bombarded in a couple of minutes. Maybe buried by the algorithm? Or maybe people don’t have time to type their responses as they’re dissecting every pixel.
The artist handle in the corner looks deliberately blurred, which either means it was smuggled out of Respawn or it’s an insane fan mockup playing the long con.
This is really interesting in that it festivals a technical blending between us-as-a-human simulator Revenant and full-on murder mode as today makes known. Picture the moment when the engineers of Hammond thought up, “you know what this nice robot needs? More nightmare fuel.”
The color palette itself is very indicative: way more warm tones in this version, like they hadn’t yet fully committed to making him look like he crawled out of a horror game.
Respawn’s art-team has always liable for fantastic character designs (sometimes kills, looking forward to Forge). You really got to appreciate how concept raw stage-legend reflects so much iteration into such creations.
Like imagine an alternate reality where this slightly less terrifying Revenant was the one we had instead. Would he still have that iconic voice quip about skin bags? Would his heirloom make sense? These are so many questions.
Delicately poised, also, by the fact that gossip is doing the rounds for some “Apex Legends” single player/coop mode that could go further into the characters’ stories. Is someone lining us up for a Revenant origin story DLC? Or simply another Tuesday in the Apex leaks cycle?
Well no matter what, dispose of your guts for the dev replies-they’re probably scrambling right now between coffee spills and panicked Slack messages.
You can be sure, if this concept art is legit, it will end up being stored in some future art book alongside all the other glorious abandoned ideas. Respawn’s concept artists don’t miss, even when the nightmares come from their creations. Now, if you’ll excuse me, I need to stare at this image some more while theorizing about alternate timeline Revenants until my eyes bleed.
