It is Bravely Default: Flying Fairy HD Remaster, and it is the new hype for all the ridiculous JRPG fans. It comes on the Nintendo Switch 2 on June 5th. Pre-orders are available now. Yes, you heard it right: the cult classic that made its entry into the next-3DS era is getting some really cool glow-up action by joining the Nintendo next-gen console.
So what’s really up with this remaster, anyway? First of all, it’s just that turn-based RPG that had people gushing over its job system and awesome soundtrack but is now coming with graphics that will make your retinas smile in glorious high definition. This would have been standard homage to the old-fashioned Final Fantasy, but with one interesting twist: Brave and Default attack techniques that let you pile turns up to unleash them in a single barrage or keep them stowed for attack later. Classy!
Square Enix made the announcement on their official Twitter, complete with fairy emoji (obviously) and a link for pre-order. There are no details yet as to whether this version has any extras, but with the original being so loaded—side quests, multiple endings, and that infamous second act—fans are getting hyped nonetheless.
Now, this is one of the first of the big third-party titles announced for Switch 2. Nintendo has yet to even reveal the thing publicly, while Square Enix brazenly dropped the name just like that.
If you missed Bravely Default the first time around, you ought to care. This is one of those rare RPGs where the story gets really even more interesting the deeper into it you go—with the game forcing you, unfortunately, to replay certain bits (no spoilers, but yeah, it does). The characters—the villain in particular—are A-grade quality, and the music? Chef’s kiss.
As of now, pre-orders are live, but nothing has been finalized concerning pricing. Considering the previous one was an all-out priced title in 3DS, we are laying expectations on around $40-$60. And for all you physical copy collectors, keep naring those fingers for some classy limited editions—Square Enix really adores them.
So mark your calendars, set reminders, do whatever you need to do! June 5th is going to be a grand day for RPG lovers. And just in case you’re still weighing your options, go and listen to the battle theme; it will convince you.
