There are not many games that can create the tabletop experience on a digital level, but Obsidian has done an amazing job with the Pillars of Eternity games. Next month you can finally take the massive fantasy epic on the road with you when it launches in its complete form for Nintendo Switch.

The Pillars of Eternity: Complete Edition will include all the additional content including The White March: Parts I & II expansions and the updates made to the PC versions of the game. New controls and UI functions will better match the Switch’s handheld and TV modes along with a new level cap and an expanded part of AI options.

The game was created after an incredibly successful Kickstart Campaign which brought in almost $4 million. The original launch of the game was in March of 2015, and later it was released for PlayStation 4 and Xbox One in 2017. Obsidian Entertainment is finally bringing the game to the Nintendo Switch, allowing a new level of portability to the beloved fantasy world.

The game is an isometric party-based RPG set in a brand new fantasy world. It has a real-time feel to it with combat that can be paused at any time for more tactical decision making. Many say it is a wonderful example of a Dungeons and Dragons game in a digital form.

The game takes place in the magical world of Eora in a region called the Eastern Reach. You play as a character of your design, which is referred to as The Watcher. As you adventure, you can recruit up to eight secondary characters as companions to aid in your quest across the world.

You are a foreigner who has just arrived in an area known as Dyrwood. Your caravan is hit, and you must take refuge in a cave where you are exposed to energies making you become the Watcher. You must learn the truth about a cult lead by a priest named Thaos. To do this, you travel to the city of Twin Elms where you can learn the truth and continue into the epic adventure that is about to unfold.

It is an entirely original world with characters and experiences that won’t match any other game. Players will find themselves consumed in the world and pushing to learn the truth behind the secrets of Eora. Obsidian Entertainment has done a fantastic job updating and fixing issues within the game, and the Nintendo Switch release will be exactly what the franchise needs to push forward.

The game will be released for Switch on August 8 and players will find it an adventure to keep for years to come. Any fan of Dungeons and Dragons or other tabletop roleplaying games will have a familiar experience within it with a whole new world to wrap their backstories around.
