With the exclusive DOOM Dark Ages theme GeForce RTX 50 Series hardware, NVIDIA has dropped something of a bomb on the DOOM and PC hardware communities. Yes, it appears as hard as its namesake game. Since the announcement, bearing the hashtag #RTXOn, the gaming community has been buzzing with hype from which fans vie for the limited-edition giveaway prizes.
So what’s the deal here? Fans are being given an opportunity to win a complete set of top-of-the-line DOOM: The Dark Ages-themed gear. The giveaway includes items from various partners, but the details of aforesaid items remain unclear. The link in the tweet leads one to a page explaining how to enter for a chance to win, but true to the internet culture, some users are complaining about problems with the entry procedure. Responding to a comment LinxsDa stated that the MSI laptop link for the giveaway was indeed dead. Oops.
Now let’s talk about some varying reactions to NVIDIA’s tweet… hype, skepticism, and a little salt. Ram Prasanth summed up the excitement with one tweet: “#DOOM anything for this let’s get it #RTXON”; meanwhile, others such as Myster Zero threw some shade at NVIDIA’s former hardware controversies by saying, “at least my Radeon 9070XT won’t catch fire like the 5090.” Oof.
And then the usual geographical restrictions occur with giveaways, of course. Nemanja Milovanovic (aka Rocky1oaK) pointed out that the promotion is not valid in Germany, which was shortly followed by a clarifying interjection by Dave S (Spitfire_Spud) that the laptop sweepstakes is global, however, the desktop PC sweepstakes is not. Classic sadness inflicted by region locking.
The good news is that there are some happy folks. ROGUETROOPER732 is down to appreciate the visuals, offering praises towards the cover art. Deepak is on board as well: “Wow, I like the theme 🤩👍🔥.” Can’t argue with that.
Now, think about the hardware: hidden for now, but if it’s anything like previous NVIDIA launches, the RTX 50 Series should be the bleeding edge of performance, wrapped up in DOOM’s demon-slaying styling. And then we have Ron Mexico proposing “day 1 path tracing,” which, sadly, if any of us knew what that even could be, probably nobody would be here.
So, should you enter? If you’re a DOOM fan or just generally down for free high-end gear, then absolutely. Just be ready for all the usual stuff: broken links, region locking, and then the cruel realization that winning one of these things is as rare as an epic drop in an MMO. Someone has to get lucky, though, right?
Keep an eye out for news on NVIDIA’s official channels and cross every finger that the next-gen RTX 50 Series will not, uh, spontaneously combust. Just kidding. Mostly.
The next opportunity? It exists. Or you know, save up for the $2K air fryer that repaints itself in pixel graphics. Happy demon-slaying, everyone.
