Since the inception of this new Stadium, the Overwatch game went into an upward spiral, with plenty of creative thoughts put together for naming builds. Not all of them welcome the attention that the mode is receiving. The official Twitter account for Overwatch challenged the fans recently: Check out this insane new D.Va mech build and come up with a witty name for it. The responses: Funny-chaotic-frustration.
Let’s talk about the names first. After some serious consideration, fans came up with names like “Wrecking Lava Mech of Doom” (scrambledomelete), “Booster Tower” (ItemsON), and “The Unbreakable Mech Tech” (Meow-cio). Some went for Bunny Stomp, Omega Burst, Rabbit Kick (GalaxyKitsune). But my favorite has to be ellysux’s Space Jam-reference: “come on and slam (the ground) and welcome to the jam (the lava).” Priceless.
There are some players who have put in some criticisms for the mode. It was accused of being unbalanced. MistahWolfe said, “All in on survivability and still melted by every other tank,” while KINGATLAS1977 added, “don’t work very well.” Then, there’s salom1416 who gave up and said, “I couldn’t win this mode, and honestly, I don’t think I ever will.” Ouch!
The real drama? The never-ending debate: 5v5 or 6v6? SkaVorah ranted that Blizzard was “ignoring the core modes” (5v5 and 6v6) for the Stadium. And then mishsdd bluntly said, “Can y’all stop playing and just make 6v6 the main game mode? Remove 5v5.” But ImJustH27192392 was quick to counter and argue that Stadium is new, crazy, fun, so why hate?
Right behind would be the usual Overwatch gripes—hero ban, queue for support, console FOV settings—because those complaints never really fade away. But hey! At least Stadium is giving the players something new to yell about.
The near future? More Stadium updates, obviously. Followed, of course, by more arguing. But for now, if you have the coolest name for that D.Va build, Blizzard is still collecting suggestions. Don’t expect everyone to agree with you, though.
Speaking of which, Big Boom feels the pain while stuck in a 45-minute-long Stadium match. “I stopped playing Overwatch again,” she said. Same, dude. Same.
