Just went live: The GeForce Rewards program; and Doom fans are going nuts! A loosely fitting description for one of the new skins in DOOM: The Dark Ages, the DOOM Slayer Verdant Skin; however, here comes the catch: There are several hoops one is going to have to jump through before one will have it in their possession. The internet has already turned into a playground of confounded players, broken links, and cries for codes; well, just your usual gaming antics.
What is this mystery child, then? The skin is only available through the NVIDIA app, yet not everyone is having such a good time with it. Some are reporting of redemption issues while others cannot meet the hardware requirements. Of course, that comment section is an absolute goldmine with folks frustrated yet sharing workarounds and begging each other for codes as if that was the last slice of pizza at a party.
In the meantime, @MazharulAlam25 dropped a pro tip: “If the redemption page is not loading, try opening another tab on NVIDIA’s site, or turn ad blockers off.” Simple stuff but these pesky tech gremlins live only to ruin your fun. Followed by @DarkTarui, who reported that they successfully made it through after initially failing. Meanwhile, @DogScoria24157 is crying in a corner because his PC can’t run the NVIDIA app: “I NEED THAT SKIN 😭😭😭.” Okay.
Keeping hopes alive for console players, @Oblivian_EDM explained that you can actually still get the skin if you link your Bethesda account after redeeming the code on PC, so I reckon calling in some favors from someone with a rig that ticks all the boxes should be on your priority list. But the shallow ones are begging for free things. @CaesarKing115 pleaded, “Can someone PLEASE give me the code I don’t have windows😭😭🙏🙏🙏.” Guys, this is a desperate moment.
Then, the eternal debate is now open as to whether these are worth it. @vipeness questioned the purpose of these skins, and @masterchief_203 came back with a quickfire response: “Cutscenes have the skin equipped.” Fair enough; if you are about to slay demons looking good, it only makes sense to show off a bit in the cutscenes.
That doesn’t mean all are happy with NVIDIA’s take. @BigAndrew5000 threw shade at the app, calling it “buggy,” and declaring the intent to wait until a sale comes up rather than have to put up with it. Harsh words, though; lags and bugs are indeed valid complaints. Meanwhile, @EvanYaboi is reportedly unable to download the app. Rough.
So, how does one actually get this thing, then? If you have an NVIDIA GPU that meets all requirements, drop and give me 20! Just kidding. Open the app, go to the rewards section and claim your code. Then link your Bethesda account if you are on a console. If you get stuck, try the browser trick or disable extensions that you could have. If all else fails… just start pleading on Twitter.
At the end of the day, yet another case of exclusive cosmetics driving the internet mad. Will it affect gameplay? No. Is it cool as hell? Hmm. That is enough for fans of DOOM to start losing it over a few pixels. Maybe NVIDIA might fix the redemption process, hide in a corner, or embrace the chaos-who-knows, either way, happy demon-slaying, people!
