Publisher Funcom and developer The Outsiders have announced their upcoming project Metal: Hellsinger. The game was announced during the Guerrilla Collective showcase.
Metal: Hellsinger was created from the award-winning FPS creator David Goldfarb and The Outsiders. The original music composed was by Elvira Björkman and Nicklas Hjertberg, who are also known by their group name Two Feathers.
The game includes music by not only Two Feathers, but also vocals from Trivium’s Matt Heafy and Arch Enemy’s Alissa White-Gluz. The game is narrated by Troy Baker.
Metal: Hellsinger is an upcoming shooter rhythm FPS where players shoot on beat to increase their power and intensify the music. The game will not only be released on PC via Steam but also on consoles next year.
The title stars The Unknown, a creature who is part human and part demon but fueled by vengeance. The player has to destroy countless demon hordes and their leaders to eventually face off against The Red Judge.
In each level of Metal: Hellsinger, there is an original song composed of multiple layers. Players’ performances will impact how many layers of a song will play at one time. It starts with atmospheric background music and ends with powerful metal anthems. Players fight with a variety of weapons such as a blade or firearms. Each weapon has a unique “ultimate” ability that players can unleash when the time is right.
Metal: Hellsinger has a challenging story mode, but also a competitive Challenge Mode to face-off against friends. The game will be optimized for next-gen consoles with improved visuals, reduced loading time, and up to 120 FPS.
The Outsiders’ Creative Director David Goldfarb stated:
We want to make this the most metal game ever or get as far as we possibly could, anyway! To make something that felt like a tribute to the epic imagination and joy and fury of metal – not just in terms of music, but art style, characters, lore. Trying to do it has been an amazing joy and we can’t wait to get it into the world for people to play.
The Outsiders is an indie game studio based in Stockholm, Sweden. Its creative staff consists of industry veterans from studies such as DICE, Rovio, Guerilla Games, and more.
Metal: Hellsinger will be released on PC via Steam, PlayStation 4, PlayStation 5, Xbox One, and Xbox Series X in 2021.
