Fortnite geeks, grab your gear; these next 140 hours are going to be oozing with crazy and bonkers collaborations. It was seemingly going to be true, according to leaks, that the battle royale juggernaut would be bringing in Cleveland Brown (Family Guy), alongside characters of Bob’s Burger, King of the Hill, and even electronic musician deadmau5. Yes, that is correct. While they already have biggies such as Darth Vader, Goku, and Ariana Grande up front, they now decided to step a little bit into adult animation and DJ culture-so to speak.
Not everybody is happy about it. The responses to the leaks ranged from hype, confusion, and straight-up disappointment. Some gamers were begging for Street Fighter skins (Where is Chun-Li?), while others were still rooting for One Punch Man or Demon Slayer. Someone actually called these collaborations the worst, and yeah, that cut unto deep.
Talk about it. Cleveland Brown is an understandable one: Fortnite has Peter Griffin; why not then get the full Family Guy set? Bob’s Burgers and King of the Hill, now that’s a different ball game. But really, who wouldn’t love to see Hank Hill busting out a shotgun while chanting about propane? deadmau5 is the real “WTF” here. The DJ has appeared in games before (rocket League, anyone?), so to bring the DJ into Fortnite with that famous helmet is a vibe in itself.
The reactions vary. Some are hyped up; one even called these “iconic collabs” that will make this season unforgettable. Others? Not even close. A user said while scoffing, “Not a single skin there I’d buy.” Another demanded Terminator skins because apparently, Arnold Schwarzenegger and cartoon fathers can’t coexist.
Then there’s the Street Fighter faction. Most replies are just some version of “WHERE’S CHUN-LI?” or “GIVE US STREET FIGHTER ALREADY.” It’s pretty apparent at this point that some players really feel burned by Epic’s decisions, especially since Street Fighter skins were supposed to be on the table at one point and then just weren’t.
Those scattered hopefuls look even further ahead. One player suggests a Demon Slayer collab for next season, tied to the hole-in-the-wall for the movie. Another comes in with Black Clover, citing in-game cosmetics that match the aesthetic of the anime. And yeah, not to forget, that one guy who’s still waiting for One Punch Man. Patience is a virtue, my dude.
Now, what’s the deal with these collabs? Are they just filler before something bigger comes out? Or is Epic doubling down on bizarre, niche crossovers that only a certain audience would appreciate? Whatever the case, and unlike anything ever before, nothing shocked or disappointed the players once having been served by Fortnite.
One thing is clear—whether you’d love these collabs or hate them, soon, sooner than you think, we’re all going to be looking at them in-game. Hey, maybe Hank Hill wielding that pickaxe will grow on you. Maybe not, maybe you’ll just keep on waiting for Ryu.
Either way, there’s no way to predict it-anything goes. And that’s secretly why we keep coming back.
