The brand-new Star Wars crossover event for Fortnite grows a stir. And handcuffs, you ask? You’ve read correctly. This bombshell dropped by a recent tweet from HYPEX hinted that players would possibly get cuffed in the event, and the reactions were, well, the collective of the Fortnite community has never ceased to provide us with outlandish theories and memes.
The tweet just said, “Your squad is gonna be cuffed during the event ðŸ˜,” with that weird image going wild in the community while some took it literally and pictured themselves being arrested in the very middle of the game, while others-and let’s just say-turned the whole matter into a dirty joke.
@DSmash19 joked, “That’s what they mean by dark side 😳,” while @AnonTheAlien sarcastically replied that we had to choose ONE skin to see what we would look like in clone armor. Meanwhile @BombasticTom let loose with a conspiracy theory that players would “surrender ourselves to The Empire, and the Stormtrooper behind this mask is actually Jonesy helping us infiltrate the Death Star.” Classic Fortnite logic.
@CincoXmeta instead wrote, “We don’t want it,” on the contrary, while @chickenwhatever questioned the vibes all too much: “Wtf do people even sexualize hand cuffs anyways?” (Fair.) Then @SparKMetaX backed the whole idea, “Don’t threaten me with a good time.”
So outside the theories, the real question is: what is going on? Is it a capture-and-rescue kind of game event? Is it a slick introduction to Stormtrooper skins? Or is it just another mess with us hard from Epic Games before they actually drop onto us something quite unexpected? Knowing Fortnite, probably all three.
And let’s not forget about the other drama brewing inside the replies. @FearSkylar went on to talk about a bug, “like i cant fly up and down” in Star Wars ships, all while @StephCurry1of1 spontaneously announced, “Jarvis got unbanned 🔥,” for reasons that are quite unclear.
What’s certain is this: every time Fortnite– Star Wars collabs wrap up in turmoil, and this time players might be locked down into the action, which could be a good or a bad thing depending on which way you go. There are people ready to embrace their inner rebel-or imperial prisoner-whilst others are doubting the whole idea.
Epic, of course, has stayed mum on anything so far, meaning that the explosions of speculation, memes, and arguments will fill the days all the way to the event itself. Jailbreak mechanic? Secret mission? Just some sort of super awkward emote? We’ll find out soon (or at least in the next cryptic tweet).
In the meantime, gather your squad and prepare for…whatever this is. Cuffs included.
