So get your engines revving, Star Wars and Fortnite folks, because the action level is about to become a bit more intense. Word has it that tomorrow at the State of Unreal event, a massive collaboration between Star Wars and Fortnite Creative (hmm…insert Unreal Editor for Fortnite here) will be announced. If that happens, stand aside; the giant one is upon us!
Hence the rumors say that about a month ago, Fortnite seeded some files and text assets pointing toward this collaboration. Then, almost as quickly as they had arrived, they were snatched away in the next update. Epic Games at their best: teasing the players with something insane, then vanishing into the night like a Jedi. The players had noticed it for sure, so the hype train is roaring now with full steam ahead.
Now, the replies to that very original tweet are madness! As a few gamers seem to be hoping for an actual lightsaber pickaxe (please, PLEASE let it be real), others are screaming about Street Fighter skins as if they’ve been personally betrayed. One guy joked about breaking into Epic HQ just to get a better look at the files—actually? Mood.
The very few sniping at the idea, the comment “nobody wants this shit” was probably the harshest. Some others are holding on with all their might to the dream of Transformer or Street Fighter collaborations.
Come on, if it really is going down, why would they pull the files? Some say it was because the Fortnite player base was outraged over recent updates of late so Epic started playing hard to get. Others say it was just scrapped. But with the State of Unreal event so close, everything should be pointing towards an announcement.
And to tell you the truth, the moment this collaboration is out, Creative is really going to be the ultimate Star Wars playground. Imagine co-creating with your friends your very own Mos Eisley Cantina, or comicly staging Order 66.
Another way of looking at it: it could be one massive letdown, and we all end up staring at our screens in disappointment. But I guess that’s what makes the leaks hilarious—sometimes they’re true; sometimes they’re not; sometimes, they just throw you into crisis.
Anyway, keep your eyes wide open tomorrow for the State of Unreal. Should they turn lightsabers in pickaxes, the Internet is going to blow up in rage. And should they not, well, we shall have memes to console us.
