Alright, gamers, strap yourselves in as we finally have some official information about that long-rumored James Bond game, and it is called *First Light*. The Game Awards had the bad taste to spit the name in our faces, which sent the Internet into a chaotic spiral. There stands the title; what else is there to know? We probably don’t even know who is making the game!
So, *First Light* first. Sound sleek, Sound mysterious. Could it be undercover for-a-Bond title? Some players got into the groove (*”I’m really digging the name”* — @_Goldensilver_), and on the other hand, there were those questioning humor (*”Should have been Brown Eye”* — @JonSlayton, really dude?). Now, what on earth is this Bond game? Dark origin story? Big-time mission? Prequel? Reboot? Everyone was glued to their screens needing answers.
Here’s the juicy bit. Many a gamer, in much haste, placed the *First Light* in the same category as *GoldenEye*—the classic N64 legend that pretty much took the sunset of shooters and never let him have a safe passage (*”Big boots to fill for ‘First Light’—everyone will be comparing it to the legendary Golden Eye of the 90s”* — @BritGamerUK). And they have a right to do that. That game set the bar so high that even after decades, it’s still so much talked-about. But this is not Rare making it (RIP), nor Activision that made some later Bond games. So who does make *First Light* then?
Well, a few eagle-eyed ones were noticing the possibility of IO Interactive, the makers of *Hitman* games, getting involved in the project (*”They did Hitman justice. James Bond is in good hands @IOInteractive”* — @gamerweasel_123). Which really, why not? I really mean, if anyone can really pull off a great stealth-espionage title it’s probably them. Think sandbox-style *Hitman* levels, but with Bond’s gadgetry, good looks, and license to kill. Pretty sweet.
On the other hand, people are not sure about that. Some are wondering if this game will be a *first-person shooter* just like *GoldenEye*, or more of a third-person adventure like *Uncharted* (*”If this game is going to be like Indiana Jones first person, I’m not buying… I would prefer it to be in 3rd person, like Hitman or Uncharted”* — @N0Name72). Then there are those glad that a new Bond game is coming to life (*”Ohoh finally a james bond game! My last was quantum of solace”* — @SouISeven).
Then the weirdest view pops in—one man rejoices in the fact that Bond ain’t Black (*”Thank fuck he’s not black.”* — @vrvrsorry). Like… huh? That’s the hill you want to die on? Meanwhile, the rest of us want just a decent game either way.
Next what? No release date, no gameplay footages, not even an official announcement of who is developing it. The hype is rolling hard, however, and so players start debating whether this will be worthy of *GoldenEye* or just fall like *007 Legends*.
That being said, if it were really them making it, then IO Interactive deserves every vote of confidence. The *Hitman* trilogy was a distinctly fine production, and if they managed to bring that to *First Light* in every detail and freedom, then we might just have something very special. Henceforth, it remains a speculation and argument here-in-between, while we rush out to replay *GoldenEye* one more time.
So, yes, *First Light* is indeed real. Now, let’s hope it proves to be something worthwhile.
