With the announcement trailer entering the scene, Tomb Raider Pinball: Secrets of Croft Manor, a DLC set for June 19 release, has…uh, underwhelmed, to say the least, any one of some thousands of gamers. The pinball DLC allows one to ignite the fireplace to get those hidden modes up and enjoy completing the challenges and then chancing upon Wizard Mode. Sounds fun, right? Well, opposite views are held by the Tomb Raider fans.
The reveal was put out by the official Tomb Raider Twitter, hopping on the high-horse pinball hype under #TombRaider, and #LaraCroft. But then, the replies erupted into an angry mob clamoring for updates on Tomb Raider 12, the next coveted mainline entry into the franchise.
“Girl we tired,” mused Kasumi Chan, summing up the backdrop. Others put it more plainly, with David Corbridge hinting, “So where’s TR12?” while linking to a gif displaying a person completely melting into the floor. Let’s take a moment of perspective, wherein the frustration is being explained: Tomb Raider fans have waited years for a follow-up. What they’ve had while awaiting the promised game is… pinball.
Sarah felt the need to defend the social media team, asking, “I feel so bad for the social media manager rn. They can only post what they’re told to post, guys.” But the sarcasm continued to pile up. Gilbert Rovia quipped, “Next thing you know, Lara will be confirmed as a guest character for Tekken 8.”
Some nostalgia-fueled fans embraced the Croft Manor setting as Ternz reminisced: “I recall a time where I spent hours exploring CM, even more than the main game at one point.” Soon, though, the positivity was drowned into demanding news for TR12. “Read the room…” Tweeted Gubila’s Lair with the attachment of a facepalm gif.
The biggest question is why now? This pinball DLC coming out after the end of Summer Game Fest is insult to injury for fans starving for news. “Not a single peep during #SummerGameFest but hey, another pinball announcement!” Ill-arisen NE_VISIONS vented. “If it’s stuck in development hell, just say that.”
And, honestly? Maybe he has a point. Years have passed since Shadow of the Tomb Raider hit the shelves, and what has been given to the players since then? Fortnite skins, mobile games, and now…pinball. “Everything but an actual Tomb Raider game,” YorkieB_ snuffed.
So yeah, this is Tomb Raider Pinball: Secrets of Croft Manor coming out June 19. Will anybody care? Probably not as much as they would about TR12. But hey, Lara’s busy with “pinball host” being added to the long list of side jobs for now.
