Bloober Team is preparing for the launch of its upcoming dual-reality game, The Medium. The game will launch on both PC via Steam plus Xbox Series X and Series S tomorrow after its initial December launch was delayed. The team is also offering a small discount for those wanting to jump in as soon as the game is available.
The Medium is a psychological horror game that takes place in third-person. The game has dual-reality gameplay to explore two worlds: the real and spirit. The protagonist, Marianne, is haunted by a vision of a child’s murder. She decides to travel to the abandoned Niwa hotel resort, where the tragic event took place. The protagonist begins to search for answers.
Marianne has access to both worlds. While clues may not be present in the real world, it may be visible in the spirit realm. These special abilities will help in solving puzzles, uncovering deep secrets, and surviving a monster born from the tragedy called “The Maw,” who is voiced by Troy Baker.
The protagonist can use her special abilities in various ways but also at the same time. She can create energy shields and use a spirit blast to survive within the spirit world, and it’s dangerous creatures.
There is a special pre-order pack for those who purchase the game before December. It includes the game, digital soundtrack, and The Art of The Medium digital album.
The soundtrack contains music co-composed by Japanese composer Akira Yamaoka of the Silent Hill series and Arkadiusz Reikowski of The Blair Witch, Layers of Fear, and Observer. Mary Elizabeth McGlynn provides the vocals for the tracks. The album contains artwork inspired by the art of Polish dystopian surrealist Zdzisław Beksiński. This special bonus offer will only be available on Steam.
The game is available to wishlist now. Players can also pre-purchase The Medium to receive a 10% discount before the game launches. The developer has also posted free tracks from the game that are available to download now.
Concerning the game, Piotr Babieno, CEO at Bloober Team, stated:
Every one of our games has a central theme that drives its creative and technological design. In The Medium, we focus on perspective and perception. When you change your point of view, you discover that things are more complicated and nuanced than you initially thought. The Medium is our most ambitious game ever and we can’t wait to show you how we’re translating this vision into a psychological horror.
The Medium launches on PC via Steam plus Xbox Series X and Series S on January 28, 2021.
