With CD Projekt Red’s newest project, Cyberpunk 2077, coming out in roughly nine months, the studio is now putting the finishing touches on what’s one of the most highly anticipated games in recent memory.
Of course, everyone knows CD Projekt Red from their work on The Witcher series, most notably the game’s third installment, Wild Hunt, so it’s easy to see why Cyberpunk 2077 has such high expectations from the gaming community. Knowing this, the famed studio currently has three different teams dedicated to developing their next project, all of which are contributing to different aspects of the game.
“We currently have a total of five teams working on a number of projects, with three focusing on the development of Cyberpunk 2077,” said a rep from the CD Projekt Red team during an iterview with PC Gamer. “These include CD Projekt Red Warsaw and Kraków, who are handling the main game, as well as the Wrocław studio, where around 40 industry specialists are engaged in technology R&D.”
It’s still unclear if Cyberpunk 2077 will have a multiplayer mode, as CD Projekt Red hasn’t officially announced an online-based mode for the game. But, given the fact that it’s a first-person shooter, players will probably expect to see some type of multiplayer option, even if it’s just a simple co-op mode.
Obviously, Cyberpunk 2077 isn’t just a first-person shooter, as it’s also an open-world RPG. On top of that, players will be able to create and customize their own character, and according to multiple reports, these options will be quite diverse and detailed. So, naturally, players will probably want to take their characters online at some point after the game is released next year.
It’s quite possible that one of the three aforementioned teams at CD Projekt Red is working on developing the multiplayer component for Cyberpunk 2077, which, due to the fact that it hasn’t been announced yet, could be released as an add-on at a later date.
CD Projekt Red has rarely added a multiplayer aspect to any of their games, as more often than not, like The Witcher 3: Wild Hunt, they’re created as single-player experiences. So, if the studio does add a multiplayer mode to Cyberpunk 2077, it’ll be something relatively new for them.
But for now, all anyone knows is that, much like every other game in The Witcher series, Cyberpunk 2077 will be a single-player game that cannot be enjoyed with other players via a multiplayer mode.
