The Epic Games Store is at it again with their free offerings. This week, PC users will be able to pick up the action-adventure game Assassin’s Creed Syndicate for a limited time. It’s completely free and the perfect addition to your collection if you’ve followed this series since the beginning. Even if you haven’t, this ninth major installment has a lot going for it.

This time, the plot is set during the Victorian era in London. Twin assassins’ Evie and Jacob Frye are the game’s main protagonists, who are hellbent on gaining back control of their beloved city from the Templars. This is one of the few times that two characters take center stage. You’ll get to switch between them throughout the game’s main story and even outside of quests. That novel design instantly gives Syndicate a unique identify that was received well when this game released back in 2015.

The open-world design is particularly great in this installment. You’ll have the pleasure of navigating the crowded city streets of London. It’s one of the better environments in the franchise, to be honest. There are just so many historic sites to take in and corridors to weave in and out of when you’re running from the Templars.

The gameplay is much like that in the 8th installment, only the traveling and combat systems have been touched up a bit. Even though there are no groundbreaking advancements, Syndicate is still one of the better offerings in the franchise. It’s hard to complain about Ubisoft Quebec keeping a similar recipe, too. It has worked time and time again. Branching off too far would be a huge gamble that could prove costly.

Going back to the navigation, you can go through different sections on foot or use a carriage system. It’s great if you just want to take in the sights and enjoy a more convenient way to experience new surroundings.

The story is particularly good in Syndicate and what stands out the most has to be its lightheartedness. The developers don’t take the plot too seriously, and that’s a good change of pace compared to what has come before. Sometimes, you just want to laugh and enjoy a good story.

Those looking to add Assassin’s Creed Syndicate to their collection can visit the Epic Games Store this week and claim their free copy. There are instructions on the site. It’s definitely worth checking out if you’re up for a heartwarming adventure.
