Back in January of 2017, Capcom released the seventh main installment of what’s arguably their most popular franchise, Resident Evil, as the first-person-shooter, survival-horror game titled Biohazard came to consoles and PC. It also received a good amount of post-launch expansions, including the free Not A Hero DLC, which featured Chris Redfield as the main protagonist.
Until now, it didn’t look like Capcom was planning to follow up on their 2017 release, because the developers recently announced that a prequel for Resident Evil 7: Biohazard is coming later this month.
On October 26, the prequel for Resident Evi 7: Biohazard, which is called Walkthrough the Fear, which will also be based in Louisiana. In the game, players will be trapped in the Baker family’s basement with three other people, as house owner Jack Baker kidnapped the game’s main protagonist and the three additional companions. As you’d probably expect, the goal of the prequel will be for players to escape the mansion, and during their journey, they’ll find guns and helpful items.

As for how long the prequel will last, well, it’s not going to last long, as it’ll reportedly take players approximately 40 minutes to complete. On top of that, the game won’t be released on consoles, nor will it be released in North America, as the game will be a VR-based experience that’ll be made available only in Japan. As of this writing, Capcom hasn’t revealed whether or not Resident Evil 7: Walkthrough the Fear will eventually make its way to other countries, but it’s probably safe to assume that it will.
The next major Resident Evil release will likely come next year, as Project Resistance, a four-player co-operative online experience, will presumably hit consoles and PC next year. During a recent interview with the PlayStation Blog, Kawata Masachika, who is the game’s producer, explained why players should give the upcoming Resident Evil game a shot.
“Project Resistance is still in development and we cannot give all the details, but I would like everyone who thought that the game looked unique or maybe thought playing the Mastermind seemed fun, to try this game out. We believe we gave it a Resident Evil taste by giving players the experience of overcoming unexpected challenges through cooperation.”
Masachika also said that Capcom understands that the Resident Evil fanbase also enjoys a single-player experience, and he promised that they are working on a narrative for the game to satisfy their most hardcore fans.
