According to a report by Bungie, there have been several unjustified suspensions of players in Destiny 2 this week. This is the outcome of a newly implemented cheat detection algorithm. According to the statement, human error is to blame for unintentionally flagging many accounts, leading to their suspension from Destiny 2.

Following a week in which players reported being banned from Destiny 2 in error, Bungie has finally addressed the issue, with numerous players having their accounts reinstated after publicly protesting the bogus ban. Although Bungie has declared that the flawed cheat detection has been removed until further notice, some users continue to report being denied entry to the game.

Bungie Help, the developer’s social media outreach team, has issued a statement clarifying the recent bans, conceding that they were unfair and providing a hint as to why. Unfortunately, Bungie did not specify why the cheat detection system was flawed, although it appears that this was due to a human mistake.

If you are suspected of cheating in Destiny 2, it can be because you are using a popular item or have been in contact with one of the game’s newest activities. Unfortunately, that innocent gamer activated that flag inadvertently throughout the week.

Because of the seriousness of the error and the continued exclusion of certain people, we regret that this communication is necessary. As the TWAB blog post continues to make announcements, we anticipate learning more about what happened and how gamers can get their accounts restored in tandem with those updates.

Dealing with cheat detection in an online game like Destiny 2 can be a contentious topic among players. Bungie needs to take action against cheating because it affects both solo and team play, but there should be a transparent appeals process for when bans are unfairly applied.

Further, while the new cheat detection has been removed, all primary mechanisms for identifying and banning cheating in Destiny 2 remain and will continue to do their job.
