Rockstar Games is fresh off their release of Red Dead Redemption 2 for the PC. It has been an anticipated release for many years now. It didn’t start off so smoothly, but Rockstar is currently addressing problems with crashing. Before Red Dead Redemption 2, though, they were focused on Grand Theft Auto 5. It has sold exceptionally well since launching all the way back in 2013.

It’s now 2019 and yet there still hasn’t been a confirmation of another sequel. Grand Theft Auto 5 even to this day is an amazing game, but fans have their sights set on the future. It appears Rockstar does too in the form of next-generation consoles. That’s according to a recent job description that was put out for a programming position with the company.

Looking at the description, it details building animations for an upcoming open-world project. There is no official title of this project, but many have been quick to point out that it could very well be the next Grand Theft Auto. In a lot of ways, this makes sense.

Both Microsoft and Sony are about to release their next-gen consoles. Sony has its sights set on holiday season of 2020. Xbox could release shortly after as a way to compete head to head. It would make sense that Rockstar Games would wait until these consoles are up and running before introducing another GTA game.

The possibilities of bringing this open-world experience to an advanced console is very promising. GTA games — especially the fifth installment — always have a stellar sandbox appeal. It could be even more massive in GTA 6 in theory. That means even more content and epic adventures for fans of this storied franchise to enjoy.

Then you have other theories saying that this open-world project could be a completely different game all together. That would be pretty brave of Rockstar. They already have a large GTA and Red Dead Redemption following. If they introduced another title, they’re taking a huge gamble.

However, the prospect of Rockstar going in a completely different direction sounds appetizing. They have so many options available. You have to imagine that Rockstar fans would try out the new project just for the sheer novelty factor alone.

Either way, it’s clear Rockstar Games has its targets locked on the next wave of consoles. Hopefully, they decide to give more updates on this project so that fans aren’t kept in the dark. For now, we’ll just have to wait and see what Rockstar Games does next.
