Late into the early hours, a tweet from Xbox Game Pass set the gaming fraternity into chaos, asking players, “Do you think you and I could be friends in every universe?” The tweet was accompanied by the sides of collages of the infamous Adoring Fan from The Elder Scrolls series, sending off the hilarious and chaotic onslaught of responses. Let’s just say gamers had thoughts about it.

The Adoring Fan is the charmer (or annoyance depending on whom you ask) of Oblivion, which has grown to meme status over the years. So when Xbox Game Pass put up a side-by-side lineup of his various incarnations, including his Starfield incarnation, out came the players with some declarations. Some called him their ride-or-die companion; the others… well, let’s just say that they had different methods for dealing with him.

“Actually, I love him in Starfield; he’s always got my back and always has something nice to say,” went one defense of the fan from @JasonRocco77. In return though, @roodj1989, in an unapologetically direct manner, stated, “I just ended up shooting him. xD.” Classic really.

There was no time to dwell on nostalgia. Another faction took this opportunity to demand fixes for the rumored remaster of Oblivion. @ohmtaku just outright yelled, “How about you FIX OBLIVION REMASTERED???,” with @tiagodamiao1 working hard to echo him: “In this universe we can be friends if you just launch a new patch for performance fix on Oblivion Remastered.” Oof.

Then again, there were those deep cuts: @CyberJimbo5 noted that Xbox Game Pass “forgot” the Adoring Fan rendition in Elder Scrolls Online, while @FettySpagetty argued that ESO does have a sort of version of the fan, it’s more of an homage than an outright copy.

Well, that would be the perfect irony to overshadow any gaming Twitter feud-related chaos. The cryptic “EA25 pro bonde” from @josiautista turned out to possibly mean something like “EA25 for free” in Portuguese, much to my dismay. And @profitasgamers, obviously with a special sense of humor, says that one of the fan’s facial expressions would be “the perfect thumbnail for a YT rant video.”

The big knife, however, was from @LokiJarson, who replied sarcastically, “‘Friends’ is how I would describe it, sure,” together with an image of the fan clearly looking done with life.

Xbox Game Pass must have loved this chaos, as it commented to @caiohmedeiros “Adoring fan is all around us 😌” confirming that yes, the little guy is basically a multiversal constant at this point.

So, what is the net effect of this? The Adoring Fan is for keeps, Oblivion remasters cause gamers to be very passionate, and Xbox Game Pass is 100% level-headed troublemaker.

Whether one loves him, hates him, or just carries him around as a torch-holder (shout-out to @MrHarryBerries), one thing is for sure: this little guy is here to stay.

And honestly? It’s hard to imagine it any other way.
