One of the things the ever-outsized Fall Guys community had really been crazy over was Chonkert: the wacky new character that immediately stole all the hearts (and made way for a Twitter trend). An official reveal happened with a cheeky tweet: “i want to make it known that you beans came up with this name, not me… meet: c h o n k e r t.” What followed was an absolute explosion over the internet.
Adoring fans began flooding the replies with confusion and memes alike. Some were demanding to know if Chonkert had a cult behind him/of which they wished to be the cult themselves, whereas others proclaimed, such as @Thomaazn… “Chonkert supremacy is then real ♥️.” @MercuryDrawz chimed in… “I love chonkert!” The hype is real, and honestly? Same.
But not everyone was able to vibe with the wholesome ones. The replies then turned into complaints, mostly about the performance issues of the game on PS4. One such user, @louarey, said, “On PS4 every round of Creative the game freezes for 8 seconds just at the start of the round…I don’t understand why they continue to keep the game on PS4 if they don’t even optimize it.” Oof. While others began screaming their requests for the fixes, @Ale_gape screamed, “Arreglen este juego, el lag está mortal!” (Translation: “Fix this game, the lag is deadly!”).
The lore stated that they were busy. Bert the Pegwin (and his brothers Bort and Bart) were recently joined on the ever-growing roster of named Fall Guys creatures by Sherbert, who lives in the jungle, so @PainfulGuy10 noted Chonkert. Though still unsatisfied, @PainfulGuy10 demanded, “what about the Chicken?” with regards to naming the fowl fighter. To this, Mediatonic responded jokingly, “if this was a goose it would be the perfect time to name it honkert.”
And then…conspiracies arose from those days. @PainfulGuy10 was wondering if this .”g o o s e” mention was being employed as a very discreet indication to something bigger. Could it be the inception of a goose theme update? Or are they just messing with us? (Probably the latter, so let’s be honest.)
One thing is quite sure, as all these things keep unraveling: Chonkert is already a brand. Whether it was making people happy, making people upset, or asking existential questions about poultry, this little guy has earned his place in Fall Guys history. Now if just the game kept freezing for a little less time, we’d be able to enjoy him a little bit.
Is Chonkert the next big thing or will he get taken down by the lag on PS4? It’s up to time. But for now, the beans have spoken, and it’s Chonkert all the way.
