The official Tomb Raider account decided to enlighten some mythology on Twitter: What do Set, Chak Chel, and Thor have in common? Apparently, they are all gods bringing power and chaos into the world of Tomb Raider. That was one awesome lore drop right there. However, the game crowd did not buy that one. Instead of exchanging thoughts on ancient deities, the reply section soon turned into a full-blown demanding session for more news about the next Tomb Raider.
A perfectly harmless tweet in itself—a little shout-out to some mythological influences in the series. But to the players, this was a cheap distraction from the real issue: WHERE IS THE NEW TOMB RAIDER GAME? Replies came pouring in to the thread, including all sorts of variations: “Give us news,” “Stop posting nonsense.” “@durbin_drew” plainly said it, “Please give us news on the new game. We haven’t gotten info for years.” And honestly? Mood.
In comes @YoriYuYu to slap us with the existential dread: “We’re never gonna get the supposed to be in development new mainline TR game, are we?” Ouch. Then, @faris_close pretty much accused the account of tossing up random stuff just to meet a posting quota rather than give the players what they want—updates and new games.
Some weren’t mad, though. The mythology grams had a few gamers okay with it. @DudeKyleRaider, who dubs himself a Smite player, had some hype breaking out over seeing gods familiar from Smite creeping their way into Tomb Raider lore. “As a Smite player, seeing the gods I play over there be represented here is so cool,” he wrote. So that’s at least one happy gamer.
Then came the wild cards, like @Raijacqueline, who went on to metaphorically spin the whole situation into one about the suffering of Tomb Raider fandom. “Thor represents the strength fans have had to harness to get through the long Tomb Raider drought. Set rules over the desert without mainline TR news and Chak Chel will birth Lara ready to appear in TR12.” Deep.
Meanwhile, others just… chaotic. @BratBandicock laid this on us straight: “Girl if u don’t shut up with this nonsense,” and @starrituals screamed at the top of their lungs, “BODY SO TEAAA”—classic Twitter.
Crossover requests were made too. A few of the players tagged Dead by Daylight, begging for Tomb Raider cosmetics. @ShypotleScreams asked, “Can we get the ix chel Lara mask in Dead by Daylight as a cosmetic?” Honestly? That’s not a bad idea.
But the real takeaway? Tomb Raider fans are tired of waiting. The last mainline game, Shadow of the Tomb Raider, was released in 2018. Since then? Crickets. Remasters here and there, whispered faintly in the background. So when the official account posts about gods instead of giving updates, won’t find anyone on the player side showing mercy.
Will we ever get a Tomb Raider 12? Who knows. But the mythology tweet is here to stay, as well as angry replies. The chaos gods are winning, and the fans are losing.
